Hi, I’m Karen

Hi, I’m Karen, and I believe that no human is worth more than another. I’ve worked in for-profit, nonprofit, public education, and at home, where I worked as an unpaid primary caregiver for multiple generations of my family. Today, I manage cohorts of grant recipients across the country. (Learn more about my professional background on LinkedIn.)

One of my most transformational experiences was working as a play-based learning facilitator in public libraries. For five years, I watched as people of all ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, races, cultural backgrounds, and genders gathered for 90 minutes of play and circle time, and I realized – when people from so many different life experiences gather together, we treat each other differently. We treat each other better. We are more likely to treat each other as equals.

Now, I strive to surround myself with the voices of people who practice equal worth living and learn from their wisdom. I endeavor to infuse antiracism and inclusive community-centric methods into my work and into my life. I see how my challenges as a single mother are just one branch of a system that seeks to oppress us all, harming some much more than others.
